بنیان گذار و نخستین رئیس سازمان حفاظت محیط زیست ایران درگذشت. وی که ملقب به پدر تالاب ها است، ١٣ اسفندماه ١٣٩٨ همزمان با روز جهانی حیات وحش در واشنگتن دار فانی را وداع گفت. روز حیات وحشی که اسکندر با تمام وجودش عاشق آن بود.
